about
El Rocko’s debut track, “Half the Day,” contemplates the demise of a relationship that disintegrates in a matter of hours. “I was thinking about all the relationships I have been in that seemed to end abruptly,” Waller stated. “Even if it had been building up under the surface for months, I often felt like it took less than a day for everything to fall apart.” Waller’s delicate, carefree delivery subtly disguises the turmoil of a relationship crashing and burning before our very eyes, as it were, in only 3 minutes and 48 seconds. The song closes with the image of two people in isolation, waiting for the other one to reach out, but neither willing to be the first to break the silence.
lyrics
"Half the Day"
Getting famous with your eyes closed
Why you hate this nobody knows
It took you half the day
You’re hoping that she’ll stay with you
But I’m not so sure of it
Let me know how it goes
Saw you waiting with your eyes closed
Where she’s headed nobody knows
It took you half the day
She says she will not stay with you
But I’m not so sure of it
Let me know how it goes
Now she’s looking at a painting
And she’s wondering why you’re waiting
It took her half the day
To slip out and sneak away from you
But she’s not so sure of it
She’ll let you know how it goes
